Great Bend’s Sadie Spray signed a basketball scholarship offer with Washburn University Wednesday after averaging 17 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game last year. She led the Panthers in scoring, steals and blocked shots.
“Thank you for giving me this opportunity and believing in me,” Spray wrote. “It couldn’t have happened without my school, friends and family.”
The Panthers (7-14) lost to Hutchinson High 32-24 to end last season.
Great Bend girls basketball coach Cindy (Keeley) Beck played for a NCAA Division 2 2005 basketball champion at Washburn University.
The 3-sport athlete helped the Panthers to a school record 31-5 volleyball season and a Western Athletic Conference championship. The daughter of Chris and Julie Spray was third on the Panthers with 254 digs and fourth with 140 winners.
In track, Spray competed on the 5A state champion 1,600-meter relay team (4:03.85) and ran a leg on the school record-setting 400-meter relay team. She placed third twice in the 5A high jump (5-4) and has finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (47.34) and sixth (47.25).
