Panthers qualify at Salina swim meet

SALINA – The Great Bend swim team earned five 5A state consideration times during Thursday’s Salina South Invitational.

Earning state times were the Panthers 200 medley relay (1:56.8) with Trevor Delong, Ellis Long, Laken Webb and Brody Feist; the 400 free relay (3:50.13) with Tyler Stein, Daniel Abbott, Allen To and Matt Huslig; Matt Huslig in the 50 free (23.87) and 500 free (5:43.0); and Tyler Stein achieved a state qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (59.69).

“We had some really good swims with several personal best times,” said Great Bend coach Kari Carper.

Ellis long missed the consideration time in the 100 breaststroke by just over 3 seconds.

“This is very impressive as this was his first high school meet,” Carper said. “We had several other swims that are close to state consideration times.”
