Panthers' Unruh earns second team WAC honors

Great Bend sparkplug Sydney Unruh earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference basketball honors. Unruh led the Panthers in assists, averaged 11 ppg, 3 steals and 2 rebounds per game. She shot 27% on 3-pointers, 35% from the field and 58% on free throws. She played 81 career basketball games and converted a team high 30 3-pointers.

Unruh scored a career high 22 points against Holcomb. She converted a crucial 3-pointer in a 49-46 victory over Shawnee Heights Jan. 30. She sparked a 46-40 victory over Hays with two steals, two assists and six points in the final minutes Feb. 26.

The Panthers (7-13, 1-7 WAC) lost to Salina South 51-35 in 5A substate play.

Dodge City’s Kisa Unruh was named WAC Girls Player of the Year by league coaches. Dodge City Coach Kelley Snodgrass was voted WAC Coach of the Year. Dodge City (21-2, 8-0 WAC) lost to state runner-up Topeka High 53-35 in the 6A semifinals.

Unruh averaged 13.5 ppg and owns six school records – career points (1,098); career field goals (349); career 3-pointers (189); career free throws (211); season FT% (85%); and most 3-point baskets in a game (8).
