Phelan, Rolfs help American team to win in prep All-Star game

Central Kansas Girls High School All-Star Classic

Offense was definitely not a problem Sunday afternoon at the Barton Gym in the fifth annual Central Kansas Girls’ High School All-Star Classic. The American team topped triple digits at they won 114-90 over the National team in the event hosted by Barton Community College.
Central Plains’ standouts Regan Phelan and Taylor Rolfs, both first team all-state picks in 2A, reached double figures to pace the American team. In all seven players scored double digits.
The American team built an early lead and kept scoring in the affair. The squad led 32-27 after the first quarter and pushed the margin to 60-53 at half. While the American team continued to score at a high pace in the final 20 minutes the National team scored just 37.
Jessica Steffen of Buhler High School led the American team with 23 points followed by 14 from Rolfs. Kristen Burger of Thunder Ridge and Kylah Comley of Sterling each added 12 for the winners. All three were first all-state in the respective class.
Phelan contributed 11 points while Kyleigh Kasper of Russell and Chloe Miller of Beloit-St. John’s finished with 10. Hoisington’s second team all-state pick Rylie Koester also played for the winning team.
Steffen, a Yale commit for next season, made six threes in the win.
Alex Ratzlaff led all scorers with a game-high 29 points. The Hillsboro standout and first team all-state pick, paced three players in double figures. Jordan Clouse of Riley County added 13 and Tarrah Bammes of Manhattan added 11. Great Bend product Lauren Welch scored eight for the Nationals.
