The third Pickleball Turkey Classic Nov. 12-13 sponsored by the Great Bend Recreation Commission attracted 132 participants. The event has grown from 48 players two years ago at the Panther Activity Center.
Great Bend players were joined by players from Hutchinson, Kansas City, Salina, Larned, Hays, Wichita, Topeka and Colorado. Pools and brackets featured players from beginners to advanced players to to make it fun and competitive.
Men’s, women’s and mixed divisions won turkeys, side dishes and pumpkin pies.
“Pickleball has been growing in Great Bend,” said Chris Umphres, GBRC director. “It’s great watching local players get better. Some played in their first tournament, and others have traveled all over the region to compete.”
