Overpowering the opposition, Great Bend High School totaled 44 points to beat second-place Larned (38) in the seven-team GBHS round-robin tennis tournament on Tuesday.
Morgan Francis and Macy Moyers won first place at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and Brianna Schartz and Jami McVay captured the top spot in the No. 1 doubles. They all finished with 3-0 match records.
“They all played well in the finals,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Both Morgan and our No. 1 doubles didn’t play as well in the semifinals.
“The No. 1 doubles started terrible. They played well in the finals.”
Francis, a sophomore, coming off a second-place finish at the always-tough McPherson Invitational, defeated Kelly Brayer of Dodge City in the finals, 8-3.
Freshman Moyers defeated Sterling's Mac Trasher in the title match, 8-4.
Brianna Schartz and McVay swept past Larned’s Bailey Schartz and Alex Lessard for first place, 8-0, and in No. 2 doubles for GBHS, Paola Ramirez and Stephanie Langer had a 2-1 record to take home third place.
