The Great Bend High School girls’ soccer team had three seniors selected as All-Western Athletic Conference athletes after the 2012 season.
The Lady Panthers, who were riddled with injuries throughout the year, finished with a 5-10-2 overall record, 1-6-1 in the WAC with a 1-0 victory over Liberal at home.
Berenice Prieto, who was the only Great Bend player selected for the first team, scored the only goal in the game.
Christina Hernandez and Sandy Hernandez were each selected as honorable mention.
Hays head coach Chris Michaelis was named WAC Coach of the Year.
Taylor Herman of Hays was named WAC Player of the Year.
Prieto, a forward and midlfielder, finished the season with five goals and three assists. She played in 12 of Great Bend’s 17 games this season due to injury.
Prieto injured her knee during practice before the season began.
Christina, a midfielder, scored two goals and had two assists. She played every game without injury.
Sandy played center defender for Great Bend. She was injured during the season and was out for one game, returning to finish out the season.
Winfield ended Great Bend’s season during a first-round game of a Class 5A regional tournament.
