HOLCOMB — Larned’s boys stunned Hugoton 62-56 Friday to advance to the 4A Holcomb basketball championship game. Hugoton, the 2016 state runner-up, had qualified for the 4A state tournament the past two years.
Larned (10-11) outscored the Eagles 17 points after trailing by 11 points in the third quarter. The Indians crept within 40-36 with an 10-3 scoring run. The Indians have finished the season with a 6-3 record.
Supersub Trenton Fletcher, Keelan Castro and Mason Perez drilled 3-pointers for a 54-50 Larned lead. Hugoton got within 57-55, but Larned iced the game with five free throws.
Perez scored 16 points. Brock Skelton scored 14 points. Fletcher and Castro added 11 apiece. The Indians converted 18 of 47 field goals and 17 of 26 free throws.
“It was Trent Fletcher coming off the bench,” said Larned coach Jarrod Smith. “Look at the energy he brought.”

OTIS-BISON GIRLS 47, INGALLS 38
RANSOM – Maddie Wiltse scored 25 points and Cora Anderson added 15 points as the Cougars’ height overpowered Ingalls 47-38 in Friday’s 1A Western Plains basketball regional. Wiltse and Anderson scored inside and blocked several Ingalls shots.
Ingalls was within 25-22 when Wiltse and Anderson combined for 12 consecutive points, the final basket by Anderson off an assist by Cristen Trapp.
The Cougars (15-6) will meet Quinter (16-5) in Saturday’s championship game. Otis-Bison placed third at the 1A-Division 2 state last year and has qualified for the state basketball tournament four times.

RANSOM – Quinter’s Brittney Walt scored 32 points to spark a 67-38 victory in the semifinals of the 1A Western Plains basketball substate. Walt converted five 3-pointers. Kylie Crist added 14 points. Quinter (16-5) meets Otis-Bison (15-6) in Saturday’s championship game.
Pawnee Heights (10-12) was paced by ninth-grader Cadence Nondorf with a career high 15 points. Jaden Carlson added nine points. It was the best basketball record in years for the Tigers.

CLAFLIN – Macksville’s Jacob Rein scored 19 points and Karson Waters added 17 points to spark the Mustangs past rival Ness City 67-52 in the semifinals of the 2A Claflin basketball substate.
Kody Mead contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kreed Parr had six assists. Waters added nine rebounds and four steals. Rein had four assists.
The Mustangs started with an 11-0 scoring run and sealed the victory with a 13-0 scoring run to start the second half.
Mustang Kreed Parr delivered the key defensive assignment holding John Pfannenstiel, averaging 20 points, to eight points. Christian Scheopner led Ness City (17-5) with 13 points.
The Mustangs (18-4) meet No. 1 2A Central Plains (22-0) in Saturday’s championship game. The Mustangs have made 19 state tournament trips and own two state titles.

CLAFLIN – Alex Hickel led three players in double figures with 13 points to lead Central Plains past Pratt-Skyline 55-19 in Friday’s 1A Central Plains basketball substate.
Myles Menges (12) and Brett Liebl (10) scored in double figures. Liebl grabbed 11 rebounds. Devin Ryan had four assists and Hickel and Liebl three assists.
Central Plains (22-0) plays Macksille (18-4) in Saturday’s championship game. The Oilers have made 19 state tournaments, counting Claflin and Quivira Heights.
