Braves beat Pratt for third at Smoky Ford Tournament

PRATT – The Great Bend Braves Legion baseball team took advantage of four Pratt errors, eight walks and two hit batters to beat Pratt 7-2 for third place in the Smoky Ford Wood Bat Tournament.
The Braves scored one run with a base hit, scoring the other runs on errors and groundballs.
Jesus Bujanda singled home Calan Haberman in the first inning. Cal Kasier scored on Haberman’s groundball for a 2-2 tie.
Colin Hall and Joey Soupiset scored on third-inning Pratt errors for a 4-2 lead. Haberman stole home, Townshend Kurth scored on Eduardo Bujanda’s groundball and Jesus Bujanda scored an error for a 7-2 decision.
Jesus Bujanda worked into the sixth inning and Eduardo Bujanda completed the final two innings.
The Braves (22-12) play at Buhler July 5, a tuneup for the Buhler Zone July 11-14 on Buhler’s turf infield.

Hoisington downs Braves

PRATT – Hoisington’s American Legion baseball team defeated the Great Bend Braves 6-2 in the Smoky Ford Wood Bat Baseball Tournament Friday. Hoisington’s Kaleb Blazek worked five innings and Jeremy Breit pitched the final two innings.
The Braves (21-12) led 2-0 after two innings. Cal Kaiser singled home Jayce Christiansen in the second inning. Joey Soupiset singled home Townshend Kurth in the third inning. Kaleb Blazek worked out of trouble when he retired Brayden Powell on a doubleplay.
Hoisington scored four runs in the third inning. Blazek singled home Derek Boxberger. Alex Schremmer scored on Kyle Lang’s sacrifice fly. Myles Menges walked and forced home Blazek. Trey Byers singled home Hunter Hanzlick for a 4-2 lead.
In the fifth inning, Menges stole home and Jerred Bieberle scored on a passed ball for a 6-2 lead.

Braves win Pratt opener

PRATT — The Great Bend Braves American Legion baseball team roughed up the Dodge City Rangers 27-4 in Friday’s opening game of the Smoky Ford Pratt Tournament. The Braves scored 13 runs in the fourth inning.
BRAVES 27, RANGERS 4 — Colin Hall amd Brayden Powell each drove in four runs and Townshend Kurth drove in three runs. The Braves scored nine runs in the third inning. They topped that with 13 runs in the fourth inning.
Calan Haberman scored on Joey Soupiset’s groundout. Powell’s single scored Kurth and Hall for a 3-0 lead. Kurth’s infield single scored Nahum Olivas. Hall’s single scored Jayce Christiansen for a 5-1 lead.
Olivas scored on Haberman’s fly ball to start a nine-run third inning. Christiansen scored on Kurth’s groundball error. Hall’s infield single scored Haberman. Soupiset’s single scored Kurth. Hall and Soupiset scored on wild pitches. Cal Kaiser’s sacrifice fly scored pinch runner Christian Zahnter. Powell scored on an error for a 14-3 lead.
In the fourth inning, Hall, Soupiset, Smith and Kurth delivered RBI singles and Powell’s two-run single scored Soupiset and Smith. Cal Kaiser scored on an error. The Rangers committed three errors and allowed 11 runners to reach base without a hit.
