Cardinals win 3A golf regional

BARTON COUNTY — Hoisington High’s Sydney Boxberger earned medalist honors (89) to lead the Cardinals to first place in Monday’s Class 3-1A girls golf regional at Lake Barton Golf Course. The Cardinals posted a score of 378 to beat runner-up Cheney (402) by 24 strokes. Cheney’s Amy Akler (90) was runner-up.
The Cardinals featured 4th-place finishers Madison Wilborn (95) and Hadleigh Gardner (85), 7th-place finisher Delaney Smith (97) and 10th-place finisher Jaci Schremmer (106). Trinity Dolezel (107) placed 11th.
The Cardinals will compete Oct. 17 at Garden City’s Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
Hoisington’s girls placed third in Class 3A last season. The Cardinals return state medalists Delaney Smith (11th), Sydney Boxberger (11th) and Madison Wilborn (14th) along with Jaci Schremmer (34th) and Hadleigh Gardner (48th) from their third-place team.
The Cardinal girls have captured four state titles, two runner-up trophies and four third-place trophies under coach Bruce Cooper.
