The Central Prairie League had five high school basketball teams make state tournaments this season — St. John girls, Otis-Bison boys, Central Plains girls, Ness City boys and Victoria girls.
The Lady Oilers, who finished in fourth place at the Class 2A state tournament after losing to Republic County 48-47, had the most selections of any team with five.
Sydney Rugan was unanimously selected to the first team for Central Plains (19-7).
Jennifer Hitschmann was placed on the second team, Janae Hekele found her way on to the third team and Katie Hipp and Lindsey Woodmansee were both honorable mention.
St. John, which finished as the state runner up in the 1A Division-I state tournament, had Teresa Wade, who was a unanimous selection, and Jamie Waters on the first team.
Morgan Osborne represented the Lady Tigers (23-3), who fell to Hoxie 55-45 in the state championship game, on the second team and Alexis Witt was selected as honorable mention.
Otis-Bison’s girls (10-11) had two players selected. Janel Tammen made the first team and Hannah Bannister made the third team.
Macksville’s Mindy Wood was selected to the third team.
Of the eight boys teams that placed players on an all-league team, Macksville, St. John and state runner-up Otis-Bison each held the most selections with four.
The Cougars, who defeated two defending state champions this season, tackling Macksville late in the regular season 58-56 and beating Tribune-Greeley County in the first round of the 1A D-II state tournament 63-51, had junior point guard Dylan Wissman on the first team.
Wissman was the only starter on the Cougars (18-8) that was not a senior this season.
Senior Trevor Keller, Otis-Bison’s leading scorer, was selected to the second team.
Brandon Pechanec, Otis-Bison’s 6-foot-4 senior post player who finished with 21 points against Frankfort in the state championship game, made the third team.
Patrick Piper was an honorable mention.
St. John (14-8) had Spencer Nusser on the first team, Dean Wade and Kade Kinnamon on the second team and Zuriel Reyes on the honorable mention squad. All four players will return next season.
Macksville’s Adam Oak was the only unanimous selection on the boys’ teams.
