DODGE CITY — State-ranked Class 2A Central Plains surprised Class 6A Junction City 51-44 Thursday in the Dodge City Tournament of Champions.
Hunter Ingham’s 3-pointer gave the Oilers the lead.
The Oilers outscored the Bluejays 26-16 in the second half. Layne Bieberle scored 21 points and Jacob Warnken added 10 points. The Oilers play Class 6A Shawnee Mission South at 7 p.m. Friday.
Central Plains scored 19 points off turnovers and scored 11 second chance points. The Oilers outscored the Bluejays 14-4 from the free throw line.

EL DORADO — The Circle Thunderbirds broke the game open with a big second quarter and beat the Great Bend Panthers 66-46 Thursday at the Bluestem Classic.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Panthers 20-11 in the second period for a 35-22 halftime lead. Jacob Murray hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get the Panthers within 46-39. But Circle outscored the Panthers 19-7 in the fourth quarter.
Kody Crosby led the Panthers (1-8) with 14 points and the Panthers made seven 3-point goals. Crosby hit back-to-back 3-pointers and scored nine first-half points. The Panthers converted 7 of 21 field goals for 33 percent with four turnovers. Bryant added 10 points.
Braden Kirkpatrick led Circle with 14 points and Garrett Cannon added 13 points.

HOISINGTON — Ellsworth’s girls used a big fourth quarter to beat the Otis-Bison Cougars 52-39 in Thursday’s consolation game at the Hoisington Winter Jam.
Amy Westerman led the Bearkats (2-9) with 15 points and Connor Davis and Kolby Davis each scored 14 points. Ellsworth will play for fifth place.
Taylor Regan paced Otis-Bison (5-6) with 22 points. The Cougars will play for seventh place.
