Central Plains sweeps Russell tourney
Central Plains Oilers

RUSSELL — The Central Plains Oiler basketball teams completed a sweep of the Morris Stephens Basketball Classics to defend their championships.
The Oiler girls rolled past Russell 70-34 behind 22 points by Janae Ryan and 19 points from ninth-grader Emily Ryan. The Oilers led 36-18 at halftime. Cassidy Crites added nine points. The Oilers converted 18 of 21 free throws.
Russell’s Jaclyn Schulte scored 17 points.

CENTRAL PLAINS 52, NICKERSON 40
Brett Liebl paced a balanced Oiler offense with 18 points as the Central Plains boys repeated as Morris Stephens champion.
Alex Hickel (16) and Devin Ryan (13) also scored in double figures. The Oilers outscored the Panthers 16-8 in the decisive fourth period. Ryan made eight free throws and Hickel and Liebl added four apiece.
Nickerson’s Braden Stewart scored 13 points and Tanner Schrag added 11 points.
