Cougars place third in Class 1A-DII

DODGE CITY — Otis-Bison’s girls held Rexford-Golden Plains scoreless for 12 minutes for a 10-0 lead en route to a 41-34 victory over the Bulldogs for third place in the Class 1A-Division 2 state basketball tournament.
The Cougars (20-5) won two games for the first time in school history and finished third. The Cougars made their first trip to the state basketball tournament since 1990.
Taylor Regan led the Cougars with 11 rebounds, six steals and eight points. Maddie Wiltse contributed 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.
The Bulldogs shot just 9 of 47 from the floor (19.1 percent). Sophomore KayCee Miller and Schiltz paced Golden Plains with 10 points apiece.

Otis-Bison loses in Friday semifinal game


DODGE CITY — Waverly’s Bailey Massoth scored 22 points in a 44-34 victory against Otis-Bison’s girls Friday in the Class 1A Division 2 semifinals.
Waverly (24-1) won the state title after finishing second last year. Waverly outscored the Cougars 14-6 in the second period.
Massoth made six field goals and added 10 of 11 free throws. Waverly held Otis-Bison guard Taylor Regan, averaging 23 points, to 14 points.
