Cross country meet canceled because of heat

Because of heat-related issues,Thursday’s Great Bend High School cross country invitational was canceled.
“I looked at the forecast and it said between 107 and 109 degrees with 30 mph winds,” Great Bend athletic director David Meter said late Thursday morning. “I just didn’t feel good about having the meet.
“We received phone calls and talking with some of the ADs, they were kind of relieved that we weren’t running today because of the excessive heat.”
Even at 6:10 Thursday night, the temperature stood at 106.
