LAWRENCE— Kerby Depenbusch placed eighth with a time of 16:36 to lead the Great Bend boys in Saturday’s annual Rim Rock Classic cross country meet. Karen Razo finished 15th in 20:58 in the girls’ race.
“This was a tough meet for us today,” said coach Todd Kaiser. “Kerby and Karen both medaled in a very tough field in their races which was a positive. They have been steady for us all season. We also had a number of our runners who ran within 10-30 seconds of their season best time on a very tough course which was good to see.”
Ema Millard (139th, 24:02) tied her season best time at Rim Rock.

“Teamwise we didn’t run as well as I had hoped,” Kaiser said. “We got too spread out again and that can happen in a large field like they ran in today.”
“The effort needs to be there to try to close the gaps and we didn’t do that today,” he continued. “We have to get tougher mentally and work through the mental fatigue. That is something we have to get corrected over the last month of the season for us to be successful as teams.”
“We just have to get back to work and get ready for the home stretch of our season. We have runners who have the ability. They just need to have confidence in that ability and go out and compete,” he said.
The Runnin’ Panthers will compete at Junction City this Saturday.
