HOISINGTON — The Ellinwood High School boys’ cross-country team turned in a perfect score at a Mid-Central Activities Association meet on Thursday evening.
The Eagles, who are the defending Class 2A state champions, captured the first five places in the race to finish with 15 points and an MCAA title.
The Lady Eagles, who were state runners-up the last two seasons, also finished first, scoring 29 points.
“Both the girls and the boys did a good job,” Ellinwood head coach Lyles Lashley said. “One of the goals the guys set for themselves at the beginning of the season was to finish with a perfect score, so it was nice to see them accomplish that. They’ve worked really hard.”
Pedro Montoya snagged first place with a time of 17 minutes, 49.63 seconds.
Jenna Snell led the girls with a third-place finish, crossing the finish line at 17:09.74.
Ellinwood travels to Hill City on Saturday, Oct. 20, for a 2A regional meet. The girls start at 3 p.m., with the boys race starting at 3:30.
Lashley said his team is ready to make another run for a state crown.
“I think we’ve got just as good a shot as anybody at this point,” Lashley said. “We’ve just got to stay healthy, and continue to work hard.”
