GREENSBURG – Ellinwood’s girls dug a 7-point hole that the Eagles could never overcome in a 51-45 loss to Kinsley in Friday’s Class 2A Greensburg basketball substate semifinal. Kinsley played No. 1 ranked Central Plains in Saturday’s championship game.
Madison Ward scored 20 second-half points and Brittney Beck scored 15 points with solid passing. Ellinwood scored 37 second-half points off 16 of 22 shooting. Beck’s passing led to Ward’s 20-point second half.
Every time Ellinwood rallied, the Coyotes responded with an offensive score. Kinsley’s Scout Frame scored 19 points and Rylee Gleason added 13 points.
The Eagles were unable to overcome an 8-point first half with 18 turnovers. Ellinwood scored four times on 34 first-half possessions.

GREENSBURG – Emily Ryan scored 22 points and sister Janae Ryan added 18 points to spark No. 1 ranked Class 2A Central Plains past St. John 53-22 in Friday’s Greensburg basketball substate.
The Oilers (22-0) advance to Saturday’s championship in a quest to qualify for their fourth consecutive state basketball championship. The Oilers dominated the first half with a 37-2 scoring burst to lead 40-7 at halftime.
St. John (11-11) was paced by Tara Nelson with eight points.

INGALLS – The Otis-Bison boys rolled past Bucklin 64-22 in the Ingalls Class 1A-Div. 2 basketball semifinals. The Cougars (17-4) advance against Ingalls for the school’s ninth state tournament trip and the first since 2012. Otis-Bison was Class 1A state runner-up in 2012 with a 62-53 championship loss to Frankfort.
Maitland Wiltse scored 18 points and Kade Urban added 14 points. The Cougars led 40-14 at halftime behind dominating defense and fast-break scoring.

INGALLS – Ingalls avenged a recent loss to Pawnee Heights with a 65-55 victory over the Tigers in the Ingalls Class 1A-Div. 2 basketball semifinal. Ingalls (9-12) was led by David Varela with 29 points.
The Tigers (10-11) placed Spencer VanMeter (24), Kade Scott (21) and Kaleb Karst (10) in double figures. Pawnee Heights beat Ingalls 61-47 on Feb. 17.
