Chiefs lose Omaha finale

 

OMAHA, Neb. – Elkhorn, Neb. defeated the Great Bend Legion Chiefs 6-2 Sunday to end their Omaha College World Series baseball road trip with a 1-3 record. The Chiefs (11-6) play Dodge City at home Wednesday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Chiefs’ baseball Classic starts Friday at home.

Great Bend led 2-0 after 21/2 innings. Riley Smith singled and scored on Calan Haberman’s triple. Haberman scored on Alex Schremmer’s third-inning sacrifice.

Elkhorn’s Caden Ward singled home Drew Christo in the third inning for a 2-1 score. Chiefs’ left fielder Haberman completed a double play to second baseman Riley Smith and Jesus Bujanda relayed to Travis Kurth for a second out on the bases.

Jason LeFleur singled home Kyler Randazzo and Christo’s single scored LeFleur for a 4-2 lead. Parker Gutschow scored on an error for a 4-2 lead after four innings. Kyler Beekman and Grady Hatton scored on a sixth-inning error on a pickoff move. Elkhorn pitcher Mitch Kahre threw 76 pitches and struck out five batters.
