ELLINWOOD — The Elliinwood Eagles Middle School basketball team is entering the final week of their season as they prepare for the Central Prairie League Tournament.
The A team roster includes Mya Maxwell, Ashtin Klepper, Haley Troyer, Emily Frakes, Daphne Doll, Jozlyn Brown, Allison McReynolds, Anahi Mendez and Karson Harrington.
The A team started with an eight-game winning streak before suffering its first loss in Victoria to the Squires Jan. 9.
Since that loss they have won two more games to take a 10-1 record into the CPL tournament held next week in Victoria. Their average margin of victory in those 10 games exceeds 30 points.
The first round games are scheduled Saturday Jan. 28. The No. 2 seed Eagles will play the the No. 7 seed. The semifinals are scheduled Jan. 30 and the finals Feb. 2.
ELLINWOOD B TEAM —The Ellinwood B team played great defense and converted Central Oiler turnovers to score in transition won to win the Central Prairie League B team tournament 30-27 at Claflin Jan. 7. The B team roster was comprised of Becca Henderson, Anahi Mendez, Allison McReynolds, Karson Harrington, Mary Dimitt, Gracie Schlessiger, Gabby Jacobs and Callie Schartz.
Ellinwood defeated Macksville 56-2 tro qualify for the finals against Central Plains. The B team won 12 games in a row to finish the season with a 12-1 record and CPL Eastern Division B team champions after losing the opener to Central Plains.
ELLINWOOD C TEAM —The C team completed their season Jan. 21 with the local Optimist C team tournament. The C team roster Jan. 21 included Jennie Magner, Gracie Schlessiger, Charity Sandberg, Brittany Simpson, Callie Schartz, Gabby Jacobs, Brooklyn Morgan, Lauren Knop, Jayden Keith, Bella Baker, Kiley Stevenson and Anna Ricker.
Due to a lack of teams competing, the Ellinwood girls were split into two teams of equal ability to make a three-team round robin tournament with Little River.
The Red Ellinwood team win 27-19 against the White Ellinwood team. The Red team played well and defeated Little River 18-8. The Ellinwood White team defeated Little River 18-7.
