GARDEN CITY— Turning to its senior leadership Thursday night, the Garden City girls soccer team scored three goals within a three minute span in the second half and added another score for good measure late in the period for a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Great Bend.
Both squads fought off a nasty north wind with peak gusts of 38 mph and upper 40 degree temperatures by the time the final whistle blew.
Both teams combined for 17 shots with six of those going to the Panthers. Two of those shots came in the final two minutes of play. Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Anspaugh posted a pair of saves in the effort.
Garden City senior Megan Martinez saddled the first three goals for the Buffs which were all unassisted. Junior Amber Miller tacked on the final score at the 63rd minute mark.
The loss drops the Panthers to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in WAC play.
Great Bend will head to Dodge City for a 4 pm WAC start on April 13.
