HAYS — The Great Bend High School boys’ soccer team advanced its winning streak to 10 games on Tuesday against Thomas More Prep-Marian.
The Panthers, who are 10-1 this season, scraped by with a 3-2 victory on the road.
Both the Monarchs and the Panthers were kept silent in the first half, holding a 0-0 stalemate into the second 40-minute period.
Noel Rodriguez got the scoring started with a goal just a couple of minutes into the second half.
“We played good, but we still had too many missed shots,” GBHS head coach Gus Prieto said. “I think we were a little tired after playing (on Monday). We controlled the ball, but some of our passing was no good.”
The Monarchs tied the game shortly after Rodriguez’s goal, making it 1-1.
Great Bend senior forward Oscar Torres broke the tie with his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Forward Enrique Guyton scored for the Panthers with an assist from Rafael Arias, making it 3-1.
The Monarchs found the net once more with less than three minutes remaining.
The Panthers host Garden City this afternoon with the junior varsity playing 4 p.m.
