The Great Bend High School girls’ swim team finished fifth at the Great Bend Invitational on Friday at Kirkman Activity Center.
The Lady Panthers finished with 205 points while Newton finished first with 387.
Great Bend head coach Stephanie Maier said that she wasn’t looking for a high team finish, but just time improvements.
“Right now, we’re really just focusing on time improvements and I saw lots of those,” Maier said. “Brianna Schartz, Brenna Haines, Kylee Spray had some really great time improvements. That’s what I’m looking for this time of the year.”
Allison Damm was the top finisher for Great Bend with second place in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 6:06.00.
Maier said that Spray stood out in the meet.
“She shaved two seconds off of her 100 freestyle,” Maier said. “She made her season goal in that event. Brenna Haines took 15 seconds off of her time in the 500 freestyle last meet and she took another two seconds off, so she is keeping up that pace. Those things stood out to me.”
Spray finished in 13th place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:05.68. She claimed 12th in the 200 individual medley, touching in at 2:47.53.
Malia Disque, Tasha Davis, Jill Martin and Katlin Fuel were honored as the seniors of the team during their final home meet.
Great Bend travels to Newton on Thursday.
