WICHITA — In a meet that was designed a precursor to the Class 6-1A State Track and Field Championships, Great Bend High School turned in nine top-6 performances in eight events.
Great Bend competed in the 6-4A Division, leaving them pitted against athletes they’ll see in state, as well as several that would be in a different classification.
Leading the group of top-6 placers, the places that receive medals at the state meet, was Jayce Brack.
Brack won the shot put with a heave of 56 feet, 8.75 inches. He also finished fifth in the discus at 142-3.
Kaylie Doll led the Lady Panthers, winning the triple jump with a distance of 36-4. She also finished third in the long jump at 16-1.5.
Other placers for the boys’ team included the GBHS boys’ 4x800 relay team — Christian Garcia, Keaton Elliott, Quinton Elliott and Armando Jaquez. The combo finished in third place, clocking in at 8:50.37.
Antonio Carrasco placed fourth in the 400 dash (52.42).
Garcia, Nick Gerdes, Ty Yager and Carrasco combined to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay (3:37.71).
For the Lady Panthers, Selam Ball placed second in the pole vault with a height of 10-6.
