Great Bend's junior varsity also struggled Thursday, going 0-3 as well at Rose Hill. They are currently 9-5 and will host the Great Bend JV Invitational next Saturday at GBHS.

GBHS freshman team improved their record to 9-4 with three wins at home Thursday evening.

ROSE HILL — The Great Bend High School varsity volleyball team was swept in three matches on Thursday at the Rose Hill quadrangular in suburban Wichita.
“Coming off an impressive win over Russell on Tuesday at home, we ran into three tough teams at Rose Hill,” GBHS head coach Kelsey Perry said. “All evening, we struggled to get in sink as a team. We had several opportunities to take leads, and then let our opponents go on long scoring runs.”
The Lady Panthers lost to Rose Hill (25-9, 25-10), Cheney (25-12, 24-26, 26-13) and Garden Plain (25-23, 25-17).
“Against Cheney, we fought back after being down 10 to win the second set,” Perry said. “We hoped that would be our momentum builder, but we struggled again in the final set with Cheney and the final match with Garden Plain. There are nights that teams don’t play their best, and we had one of those nights.”
Katelyn Henning recorded 29 digs on the night.
Liz Kutina and Brenna Haines each had 11 kills on Thursday. Rachel Harris had eight.
Perry said she expects her team to learn from the matches and move on.
“All around we knew we didn’t play our type of volleyball,” Perry said. “This is a learning step. We know we can play great volleyball and fixing a few things will get us to that point. We head to Cheney on Tuesday to re-match with them and take on Andale and Chaparral, before heading to the Tonganoxie tournament next weekend.”
