WICHITA — The Great Bend girls’ and boys’ bowling teams dominated Wednesday afternoon’s competition hosted by Wichita Collegiate.
The Lady Panthers finished 594 pins ahead of second-place Collegiate.
“The girls, we didn’t shoot as well as a team as we did (Tuesday),” GBHS head coach Mike Perry said. “We still rolled them. We tried some different things.
“In Game 3, we got together with the girls and (assistant coach) Jim Mayberry had them try some different shots to prepare for state a little bit. I think our scores would’ve been a little better if we didn’t change things up for them.”
Miranda Hejny had games of 205, 209 and 214 for a high series of 628 to lead the Lady Panthers to a final pin total of 2,099.
Alex Eye stepped up as the Great Bend girls’ No. 2 bowler, finishing with a series of 509.
The Panthers finished with 2,509 pins, beating second-place Collegiate (2,269) and third-place Wichita Trinity (2,177).
Dakota Conaway led the way with games of 213, 206 and 268 for a high series of 687.
Mark Lang finished with games of 225, 171 and 256 for 652 as Great Bend’s No. 2 bowler.
“The boys were able to string together more strikes,” Perry said. “Dakota had a big game of 268. Mark had a big game of 256, which was nice to see.
“It was good to see them bounce back from (Tuesday’s) loss against Sacred Heart.”
Great Bend hosts Garden City on Tuesday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m.
It’s a matchup that is imperative to win for both teams, according to Perry.
Right now in the Western Athletic Conference standings, Great Bend leads with a record of 11-0 in both the girls and boys standings.
The Lady Buffaloes trail at 10-1, and the Garden City boys sit in second at 8-3.
“Hopefully, we’ll come out on Tuesday and be ready to go,” Perry said. “It’s a dual that we need to win to give us the upper hand in the conference standings.”
