GODDARD — Great Bend swept a pair of high school volleyball road matches on Tuesday evening, beating Wichita Campus, 25-18, 25-20, and host Goddard Eisenhower, 25-14, 25-23.
In the process, junior setter Tarynn Stueder tied a GBHS season record for assists with 579, equaling the mark set by Andee Hartig in 2000.
“We played very well against Campus,” Great Bend head coach Kelsey Perry said of her charges. “As a team we only committed five hitting errors and had 24 Kills.
“Selam Ball, Kylee Spray, Liz Barber and Kelsie Doll passed well, which gave us the option to use all our hitters. We have 11 players on our varsity team and each player contributed something tonight to make us successful in the first match.”
After beating Goddard Ike by 11 points in the first set, the Lady Panthers had to hold on in the second, going down to the wire before winning by two points.
“Again, we were able to use our entire roster this match,” Perry said. “In volleyball you go in runs and personnel can get on a roll. Tonight, we were able to substitute a lot of people and still maintain leads.
“That is something we improved on. All around we put two good matches together tonight. After winning our last three matches at our home tournament, it would have been easy to have a let down, but we are getting in a groove now. Late in the season is when you want to see that happen.”
GBHS plays its final regular-season home matches on Thursday night, when it takes on the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A, Hillsboro, at 5, followed by a matchup with 5A powerhouse Newton at 7.
