JUNCTION CITY — With the regular season waning, Great Bend High School’s cross-country teams are looking for improvement.
At the Junction City Invitational on Saturday, GBHS head coach Todd Kaiser said he saw some of that from both the girls and the boys.
“Overall, we did some good things,” Kaiser said. “We had (personal records) on both the girls and the boys sides, which is what we want to see.”
The girls’ team finished in sixth place with 165 points.
“I was real pleased with how the girls ran,” Kaiser said. “They put together a good team race. They really came together as a team, which is what we’ve been focusing on in practice.
“We still have a long ways to go before regionals, but that was good to see.”
Mary Williams was the top finisher for the girls’ team, placing 20th with a time of 16:39.
The boys placed ninth as a team with 222 points.
“The boys, I was a little disappointed with how some of the boys ran,” Kaiser said. “If they ran to the best of their ability, I think we would’ve beat some of the teams ahead of us.
“We need to focus on getting better for regionals. When we run against teams from our regional, we need to go at them to see how we compare.”
Freshman Kerby Depenbusch finished in third place overall, clocking in at 16:16.
