CHENEY — The Great Bend High School volleyball team won one of three matches on Tuesday at the Cheney Quadrangular.
Great Bend defeated Chaparral, 25-16, 25-18, before losing to Cheney, 27-25, 25-10, and Andale, 25-18, 25-18.
“Against Chaparral we played well as a team,” Great Bend head coach Kelsey Perry said. “Everybody played in this match and we saw a lot of good things.
“Kelsey Crosby had a great match against Chaparral, along with Liz Kutina at the net. When you finish a match with 21 kills, we know we are connecting and jelling with our setter and hitters.”
The Lady Panthers followed up their win with a two-game loss to Cheney.
“The first game against Cheney we played very well,” Perry said. “Winning hustle plays put us ahead at 20-17. We had a bad serve receive and a couple of hitting errors and dropped the first game 27-25.
“Cheney is a great team and we focused a lot on our short serves and hitting locations and were very successful in those two areas. The second game we couldn’t put any runs together and never put ourselves in a place to compete in this game. We know that if we play the way we did the first game against Cheney, we can compete with anybody.”
