Great Bend High School will open the home basketball season against 6A Hutchinson High Friday. The girls varsity game starts at 6 p.m.
Hutchinson High’s state-ranked girls (3-0) has limited three teams to 29 points per game led by Kasey Hazell (10 ppg) and Gabbie Posch (11 ppg). Coach Casey Stiggins emphasizes a defensive-oriented, ball-control style.
The Panther girls (1-3) are averaging 47 points per game behind Carley Brack (13 ppg) and Camryn Dunekack (12.5 ppg). The Panthers played their best offensive game in a 69-63 loss to 6A Junction City last week.
The Hutchinson High boys (0-3) played their best game in a 59-53 loss to Salina South Tuesday. Max Ontjes (12 ppg), Tre’Vaughn Jones and track sprinter Davian Vigil have scored in double figures. Hutchinson is averaging 43 ppg.
The Panthers have played solid defense in three of four games. Ty Esfeld (9 ppg) and Koy Brack (6.5 ppg) have led the offense, averagiung 45 ppg.
