HAYS — Newton defeated the Great Bend boys 59-51 in overtime for fourth place Saturday in the Gerald Mitchell Hays Shootout. Newton outscored Great Bend 10-2 after the game was tied 49-49 after regulation.
Cody Crosby led the Panthers with 20 points and Jacob Murray added 11 points. Tevin Berry led Newton with 31 points. Newton outscored the Panthers 22-12 from the free throw line. Trey Ibarra made six free throws and Crosby scored four points in the fourth period.
