Great Bend Chiefs split with Larned

LARNED — Larned’s Legion baseball team salvaged a split with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the Great Bend Chiefs Sunday. The Chiefs dominated the opener 18-3.
The Chiefs (17-8) play Russell at the Great Bend Sports Complex Tuesday. Great Bend will be the site of the AAA Zone tournament with the Salina Falcons and Hays.
CHIEFS 18, LARNED 3 — Colin Hall led a 10-hit attack with three RBIs. The Chiefs scored in all five innings, including a seven-run fourth inning. Larned’s pitchers passed out 12 walks and five hit batters.
A bases-loaded walk, Hall’s sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded hit by pitch handed the Chiefs a 3-0 lead. Layton Pleasant’s hit by pitch forced home Larned’s first run. A catcher’s interference and bases-loaded walk handed the Chiefs two more runs. Larned scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 5-2 score.
The Chiefs scored on two runs on bases-loaded walks, an error and a wild pitch for a 9-2 lead.
Great Bend’s Jesus Bujanda, Eduardo Bujanda and Colin Hall and Calan Haberman delivered RBIs with base hits in a seven-run fourth inning. Brice Kaiser delivered a two-run fifth-inning single.
LARNED 6, CHIEFS 4 — Larned’s Carson Smith doubled home Shevin Martin and Braydon Lemuz for the go-ahead fourth-inning base hit off Chiefs reliever Brice Kaiser. Martin singled and Lemuz reached on an error. Smith scored on Layton Pleasant’s sacrifice fly for a 6-3 lead.
Larned reliever Austin Gladow recorded four outs and stranded the tying runner on base for the save.
Carson Smith’s single scored Martin for a 1-0 lead. Brice Kaiser scored on Cal Kaiser’s second-inning sacrifice fly. Carson Smith’s single scored Gladow for a 2-1 lead after two innings. Pleasant scored on Brayden Rupp’s third-inning sacrifice fly.
Jayce Christiansen’s two-run single scored Hall and Cal Kaiser for a 3-3 tie after 31/2 innings. Townshend Kurth scored the Chiefs’ final run on a sixth-inning wild pitch.
