EL DORADO — The Great Bend High School boys’ cross-country team finished 10th at the El Dorado meet on Saturday with 248 points.
The Lady Panthers finished with 284 points for 12th place.
“I thought the boys ran well today,” GBHS head coach Todd Kaiser said. “The placement doesn’t really show it, but they ran well together. Everyone of them ran their best time of the year.”
Kaiser said the girls turned in some good times, too.
“The girls, every one of them ran the best time of the season,” Kaiser said. “We’re obviously getting everything we can from them. We just need to close up the gaps a little bit if we’re going to get the team qualified for the (Class 5A) state meet.”
Cristian Garcia led Great Bend with a 20th-place finish at 16 minutes, 41 seconds.
Christian Graham (16:55) finished 32nd.
“It was nice to see two guys under 17 minutes,” Kaiser said. “We had another two under 18 minutes, and Bobby (Chavez) is right there, too. We competed well as a team.”
Kaitlynn Tuey (16:22) led the Lady Panthers, finishing in 36th place.
Great Bend hosts the Western Athletic Conference meet on Thursday. The girls’ junior varsity race starts things at 4 p.m.
The boys’ JV is set to follow at 4:30, the girls’ varsity race starts at 5 and the boys’ varsity race is slated for 5:30.
