Coming off a 48-40 upset victory over previously unbeaten Hays on Tuesday night, the Great Bend High School boys’ basketball team hits the road once again tonight, traveling to Dodge City to take on the Red Demons in Western Athletic Conference action.
It will be played at United Wireless Arena, located at 4100 Comanche. The boys game tips off at around 8, preceded by the girls game at 6.
The Panthers take a 2-5 record, 1-1 in league play, into tonight’s game.
Great Bend post player Ethan Henderson scored 11 of his 12 points against Hays during second-half action at Panther Fieldhouse. Henderson made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:30 and teammate Matt Marshall converted a pair during that stretch.
With the Panthers in dire of need of more offensive punch, Marshall, who was held scoreless in a conference-opening road loss at Garden City last Friday night, scored nine of his 12 points in the first half against Hays.
The Red Demons are 4-2, 1-0, having beaten Garden City 50-35 on Dec. 18 in their conference opener.
The Lady Panthers, coming off a decisive 54-40 romp past Hays, takes a 4-3, 1-1 record, into tonight’s game.
After a sluggish loss to Garden City seven days ago, GBHS had three players score in double figures against Hays— Morgan Harwood (14 points), Tarynn Stueder (13) and Kaylie Doll (11) — while McKenna Mauler added eight points.
The Lady Panthers had five 3-pointers against Hays.
The Lady Demons enter tonight’s game at 2-4, 0-1, having lost to Garden City 60-37 in December. They also lost a non-conference game to Manhattan, 55-38, and beat Junction City 47-36 — common opponents in which GBHS split with in December.
