Great Bend runners win WAC titles

DODGE CITY — Great Bend runners Kerby Depenbusch (16:16.8) and Karen Razo (15:13.5) captured Western Athletic Conference cross country titles Thursday at Mariah Hills Golf Course.
Depenbusch avenged an earlier home loss with a victory over Garden City runners Marcus Tula (16:23.8) and Erik Chaparro (16:35.2). Depenbusch improved his time by 30 seconds over his first home meet. Great Bend’s Eric Vazquez (17:10.87) was ninth medalist.
Dodge City captured the team title (33) with Garden City second (44). Great Bend finished third (70) with Connor Griffith, 12th, 17:35.71; Sage Cauley, 22nd, 18.04.91; and Ryan Nicholson, 26th, 18:29.22, also counting in the team score.
Great Bend’s Razo beat Liberal’s Cameryn Slatten (15:32.1) by 18 seconds. Liberal’s girls (53) edged Dodge City (60) and Garden City (61) in a tight team race.
Panthers also counting in the team score were McKenna Esfeld, 12th, 16:44.0; Paloma Sandoval, 20th, 17.07.6; Angela Enriguez, 21st, 17:07.6 and Ema Millard,. 29th, 18.01.1.
