WICHITA -- Great Bend's softball team (20-2) will play Blue Valley West (17-5) at 7 p.m. May 28 at Two Rivers Complex in Wichita in the Class 5A state softball tournament. The Panthers would play the winner of Topeka Seaman or Valley Center in the semifinals.

Four-time defending state champion Wichita Bishop Carroll has captured 12 state softball championships. Other first-round pairings May 28 are Wichita Carroll (22-0) vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (16-6) at 5 p.m.; Goddard (19-2) vs. Shawnee Heights (19-3) at 7 p.m.; and Topeka Seaman (22-0) vs. Valley Center (14-5) at 5 p.m.
