“I'm thrilled for our seniors who get to finish their swimming careers with a WAC title. They've worked extremely hard. To finally say we are WAC champions, and for some of our swimmers to individual take home WAC titles is really awesome,” said Great Bend coach Steve Beaumont. “We've been waiting for something like this for years, and for it to finally happen is really special. This was such a great way to end our season. I couldn't be happier for this team and these swimmers.”
Beaumont said the team showed some time improvements.
“Overall, we swam well and had a few really nice time improvements to end the season,” he said. “The Hays pool is not a fast pool and a tough place to get fast times.”
Beaumont said he’s hopeful that Garden City and Liberal add boys swimming next year.
Great Bend has qualified individuals and relays in multiple events for the Class 5-1A state meet at Topeka next weekend.
“We are looking forward to the state meet in Topeka and racing against the best swimmers in Kansas.,” he said. “It will be a lot of fun.”
