Great Bend High School finished in third place, behind Dodge City and Larned, and ahead of Hays and Sterling on Tuesday.
It was the Great Bend round robin tournament.
In No. 1 singles, Brooke Tiemeyer (1-3) finished in a three-way tie for third place. She won her match against Hays, 8-2, lost to Dodge City, 8-2; lost to Larned, 8-4; and Sterling, 8-7 (7-2)
“Brooke played especially well agianst Larned and lost a heartbreaker to Sterling,” Great Bend head coach Shannon Schartz said.
In No. 1 doubles for the Lady Panthers, Abby Hammeke & Randi McAfee (1-4) finished in a three-way tie for third place.
The duo prevailed against Hays, 8-3; lost to Dodge City, 8-4; lost to Larned, 8-3; and lost to Sterling 8-7 (7-5)
“We lost another close match to Sterling,” Shannon Schartz said.
In No. 2 singles, Sophia McVay (2-2) finshed in third place. She won her match against Hays, 8-3; lost to Dodge City 8-2, lost to Larned, 8-2; and defeated Sterling, 8-2
“Sophia played hard all afternoon, but needs to be more consistent.,” Shannon Schartz said.
In No. 2 doubles, Jami McVay & Brianna Schartz (4-0) captured first place.
The duo defeated Hays; 8-4, defeated Dodge City 8-7 (7-5); defeated Larned 8-7 (7-4); and defeated Sterling, 8-2
“The freshmen played well at times. They need to be more consistent and focused. They showed some mental toughness in winning two tiebreakers. They also played well after falling behind Larned 6-1.
