Great Bend’s top-ranked wrestlers dominated and several Panthers earned hard-fought wins to beat Liberal 35-22 in Thursday’s dual match. The Panthers won nine of the first 10 matches.
No. 2 state-ranked Drew Liles (29-5, 113) No. 4 George Weber (31-6, 132) and Gage Fritz (25-4, 152) cruised to wins. Liles pinned Jose Marino (0:41). Weber beat Jose Beltran 8-4. Fritz defeated Max Lugo 20-7.
But it was wins by Braxton Schooler (14-15, 138), Alex Randolph (14-15, 145) and Jeffrey Spragis (15-13, 160) that clinched the dual-match victory. Schooler beat Emanuel Rivero (20-11), 7-5. Randolph upset Carlos Mora (23-13), 5-4. Spragis downed Esteban Belmontes, 14-5.
Also winning for Great Bend were Gage Reimer (120), Skylar Burkes (126) and Eli Witte (170). The Panthers built a 35-3 lead before Liberal swept the final four matches.
