Great Bends Cody Liles will face challenge

PARK CITY — Great Bend’s state-ranked Cody Liles (132) faces a loaded bracket in Friday’s Class 5A State Tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.  The top two finishers will meet for the state championship Saturday night.
No. 3 ranked Cody Liles (35-9) will face No. 6 ranked Conor Murphy of Wichita Carroll (28-10) in Friday’s opening round. If Liles gets past Murphy, he’ll face returning state champion and No. 1 ranked Zak Hensley (45-3) of St. James Academy in his second match.
Regional runner-up Keaton Sander (126) is ranked fourth at 126 pounds.  No. 4 state-ranked Sander (31-11) will face Pittsburg Wes Jameson (26-17). Sander would face No. 2 ranked Christian Bowen of Goddard (35-7) in the second round. At regionals, Sander lost in the finals 15-3 to top-ranked Sean DeShazer of Wichita Heights, a three-time Kansas state champion.  
Great Bend’s 160-pound Christian Rivas (16-7) will meet Lansing’s Juston Smith (19-17) in his first match. If Rivas wins his first match, he’ll see KC Turner’s No. 4 ranked Jacob Smith (32-8) in the second round.
Eusebio Sierra, a 113-pounder (4-11) will meet No. 3 ranked Mason Turner of KC Schlagle (40-1) in his opening match. Eric Vazquez, at 120 pounds  (13-16) will face No. 5 ranked Jaelynn Gay of Topeka Seaman (32-10). Hunter Gregg, 145 pound (20-14) will meet  No. 2 ranked Kendall Frame of Goddard (30-4).
