HOISINGTON — Shots weren’t always falling for the Central Plains High School girls’ basketball team.
It didn’t matter as the Lady Oilers reeled in numerous offensive rebounds on their way to a 61-45 win over Hoisington on Friday night.
“In the first half, I thought we boarded well,” Central Plains head coach Pat Stiles said. “We had the height advantage. It’s something we haven’t done real well in the first part of the season, but I really like the way we attacked the glass.”
Central Plains post player Jennifer Hitschmann and forward Breanna Holmes chased down several rebounds as the Lady Oilers opened with a 13-2 run in the first quarter.
The Lady Oilers recorded 31 rebounds to Hoisington’s 18.
Hitschmann sandwiched a Katie Hipp jumper with a pair of putbacks.
Hitschmann finished with a team-high 25 points, going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
“She did really well,” Stiles said. “The rest of the girls did a real good job getting her the ball.”
Reagan Phelan, who was the only other Lady Oilers player in double figures with 10, put in two free throws after getting fouled driving to the basket.
Hoisington guard Jordin Greer scored two points with a layup before Phelan hit a 3-pointer and Janae Hekele made a steal, taking the ball to the hoop for two points.
Greer led all scorers with 28 points.
“She’s a talented player,” Hoisington head coach Mandy Mason said of Greer. “She’s smart. She knows when to attack and when to pull up and shoot it. She played really well.”
Of the other three Hoisington players to score in the game, Rylie Koester led with 11 points.
Central Plains led 16-9 after the first quarter, and 35-20 at halftime.
The Lady Oilers continued to add to their lead in the second half to put the game away.
