Hoisington baseball sweeps twin bill

LYONS — Hoisington’s Isaac Prosser started and ended the game-winning rally, and earned a save to preserve a thrilling 8-7 comeback over Lyons to sweep a Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader. The Cardinals won the opener 18-3. The Cardinals play at Kingman April 3.
HOISINGTON 8, LYONS 7 (game 2) — Prosser capped Hoisington’s wild five-run seventh inning with the game-winning base hit that scored Phillip Donecker. The Cardinals parlayed four walks and a hit batter into a game-winning rally despite getting two baserunners thrown out at home.
The Cardinals trailed 7-3 after six innings.
Prosser walked and Jarred Bieberle singled to start the seventh-inning rally. They scored on Myles Menges’ double for a 7-5 score. Donecker’s single scored Braxton Donovan. Menges scored the tying run for a 7-7 tie. Prosser delivered the big hit with a single to score Donecker.
Prosser hit Ethan Saenz with a pitch, but retired Jon Gomez to end the game.
Jacob Specht doubled home Bieberle and Donovan scored on Holt Hanzlick’s sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. Lyons scored the next seven runs off pitcher Braxton Donovan for a 7-2 lead. Reliever Avery Brewer kept the Cardinals close with three shutout innings.

HOISINGTON 18, LYONS 3 (game 1) — Hoisington’s Specht drove in three runs andMenges drove in two runs in the four-inning game. Bieberle, Donovan, Chris Funetes, Holt Hanzlick, Prosser and Avery Brewer also drove home runs.
The Cardinals took advantage of 12 walks and two hit-batters. Pitcher Derek Boxberger struck out five batters and yielded no earned runs.
