Hoisington Cardinals run dual winning streak to 62 in a row

HOISINGTON – The Hoisington wrestling team posted big wins over Chaparral 57-15 and Plainville 67-3 Thursday to run their dual streak to 62 in a row.

“The duals turned out to be very lopsided on the scoring end, but there were plenty of outstanding matches throughout the night as many state-ranked wrestlers competed,” said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. “All in all the Cards looked very impressive on the evening.” 

The big surprise on the night came from Wyatt Pedigo. Pedigo moved up into the 195-pound class where he beat Plainville’s Ryan Junkermeir (20-3) and No. 3-ranked Adrian Gerber from Chaparral.

Joshua Ball defeated No. 3-ranked Jordan Finnesey from Plainville (22-1). At 170, Cardinal Sean Urban handed Plainville’s Noah Hansen his first loss, 4-2.

“What a great team effort by our kids,” Schmidt said. “I was worried we may have a big letdown after winning the Ellsworth Tournament. We came ready to wrestle and won big matches. We got huge wins out of Cole Steinert, Joshua Ball, Sean Urban and Wyatt Pedigo. All of them beat really good wrestlers. Our whole team was super tonight. We have to keep focused though as the real season is just around the corner.”
