Hoisington claims first district win over Lyons, 34-7

LYONS — The Hoisington High School football team took its first step toward the Class 3A state playoffs on Friday night, beating Lyons 34-7.
Hagan Hanzlick carried the ball 33 times for the Cardinals (5-2 overall, 1-0 district) for 298 yards and five touchdowns. He was also the leading passer, completing 3 of 4 passes for 40 yards.
Hoisington is tied with Sterling, which beat Ellsworth 22-0, at the top of its district.

GREENSBURG — Macksville’s defense started slow but closed up quick, giving up all 22 points in the first quarter before shutting down Kiowa County.
The Mustangs (7-0, 4-0) were led by Adam Oak, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Seth Filbert completed 12 of 21 passes for 206 yards and two scores.

PLAINVILLE — Ellinwood fell to Plainville, which leads the district with a 3-0 record.
The Eagles (1-6, 0-2) are tied with Inman at the bottom of the district standings.
Ellinwood was led by sophomore Allen Templeton, who rushed for 76 yards in the game.
Quarterback Jared Oelke recorded the Eagles’ only touchdown.

Class 4A District 14
Hugoton 61, Larned 7

LARNED — Hugoton kept Larned out of the end zone until the final quarter to start 4A district play.
The Indians (0-7, 0-1) were led by Chad Wallace, who rushed for 47 yards.
Brady Keith, who scored Larned’s lone touchdown, was its leading receiver with 30 yards.

Otis-Bison 66, Bucklin 6

OTIS — Otis-Bison remains undefeated in Eight-Man Division-II play after dismantling Bucklin in two quarters.
The Cougars (6-1, 3-0) were led by quarterback Trevor Keller, who completed 5 of 5 passes for four touchdowns and 121 yards.
Patrick Piper added a team-leading 122 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
