The Hoisington Cardinal wrestling team continues to have news worthy announcements about its staff and team members. This past week the team learned that High School Assistant and Middle School Head Coach Anthony Leiker was named Middle School Coach of the year by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association.
Head Coach Daniel Schmidt has been named as one of the Coaches for the Best of the Best Sr. Dual event being held in Topeka at the Kansas ExpoCentre this coming Friday. Coach Schmidt will get to coach along the side of Brett Means from Goddard High School who was also selected for the Kansas Blue team. Carlos Prieto from Garden City High School, and Kit Harris from Baldwin High School will coach The Red Team.
Brandon Ball Hoisington High School 4 X State Champion has been selected to wrestle in the Battle of the Best Dual held in Topeka this coming Friday. Brandon will wrestle Sean Deshazer from Wichita Heights. Deshazer was also a four time state champion for Kansas this past season. The match between Brandon and Deshazer will mark the first time that two four time State Champions will meet in this dual. Deshazer was named Kansas Coaches Association Wrestler of the Year for all classes. He was named Senior Wrestler of the Year in class 5A as well. Brandon was named class 1-3A Senior wrestler of the year.
Brandon Ball this past weekend participated for team Kansas in the Rocky Mountain National Duals event for team Kansas, and went undefeated in all five duals. Team Kansas number 1 won all five duals at the event to finish in first place. Team Kansas 2 which Brandon Wrestled for went 4-1 to finish in fourth place. Brandon than participated in the Rocky Mountain National Tournament where he finished 2nd. He went 6 & 1 in the event. His lone loss came in overtime where he lost a 2-1 match in the tie breaker. Team Kansas tied for first place with Pomona Elite. Team Kansas was represented by the very best High School Wrestlers in the State of Kansas. Teams from all over the United States were present.
