Hoisington's boys captured the Hoisington Track Invitational

HOISINGTON — Four-event winner Brenner Donovan led the Hoisington Cardinal boys to first place in Tuesday’s Hoisington Track Invitational. Hoisington (190.5) outdistanced runner-up St. John-Hudson (76).
Brenner Donovan won the long jump (20-4), 200 (23.16) and 400 (53.2) and ran the anchor leg on the first-place place 1,600 relay (3:39.39) competing with Jonathan Ball, Christopher Ball and Xavier Robinson.
Jocelynn Pedigo, a javelin runner-up (92-2), captured the shot put (34-111/2) and discus (112-0) to lead the Hoisington girls to first place with 135 points to finish ahead of Cimarron (121).
“I was very pleased with how well our kids competed,” said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. “It was a great way for our seniors to end their final home meet of their careers. I believe our performances will get better as we hit May. We have hit the weight room exceptionally hard the past four weeks and have been running on tired legs. Our workouts will continue to tax our athletes, but it will be not so hard that they can’t perform well when it matters most.”
BOYS — Hoisington’s Jonathan Ball captured the pole vault (14-8), and 300 hurdles (42.07) with a runner-up on the 100-hurdles (16.08) behind Cimarron’s Nick Ast (15.87).
Other Cardinal winners were Landen Urban, shot put (44-10), Dayne Yott, 1,600 (5:04.94); Jared Curtis, javelin (149-9); Eric Barrett, triple jump (39-61/2).
Xavier Robinson placed runner-up in the long jump (19-03/4) and triple jump (37-10). Christopher Ball was a pole vault runner-up (13-0). The 400 relay finished second (47.87) with Alejandro Foster, Sean Urban, Xavier Robinson, and Wyatt Pedigo competing.
Other first-place finishers featured Otis-Bison’s Blake Bahr, 100 (11.49); St. John’s Quincy Smith, 800 (2;11.21); Stafford’s Cayden Brozek, 3,200 (11:12.34); St. John’s Chase Fisher, high jump (5-10); Otis-Bison’s Luke Higgason, discus (135-7); St. John’s 400 relay (46.48); St. John’s 3,200 relay (8:51.87) with Quincy Smith, Trey Fisher, Jorge Calleros and Triston Long competing.
GIRLS — Defending Class 1A long jump state champion Taylor Regan of Otis-Bison captured the long jump (15-73/4) and triple (32-101/2).
Other Hoisington first-place finishers for the girls were Maleigha Schmidt, pole vault (9-6); Kelsi Nuss, 100 (13.98) and Jessi Kindscher, 1,600 (6:12.41).

Runner-up finishers for the Hoisington girls were Victoria Donetz, pole vault (9-0); Bailey Sanders, 100 hurdles (17.92); Jaci Schremmer, 100 (14.25); and the 400 relay team (55.94) of Kelsi Nuss, Bailey Sanders, Angel Watkins and Jaci Schremmer.
