LYONS- The Larned Indians scrapped their spread formation offense and installed a running game out of an I formation Friday night and the result was a 49-0 whitewashing of winless Lyons.
Larned big-play runs by Kolby Keith, Shevon Martin and Jonathan Herter to roll to 379 yards rushing on 38 attempts. Keith gained 153 yards on eight carries. Shevon Martin contributed 93 yards and Herter had 70 yards. Anthony McConnell gained 30 yards.
Lyons (0-7, 0-1 District) plays Ellsworth next week. Larned (1-6, 0-1 District) plays Hoisington (7-0, 1-0 District) at home next week.

After stopping Lyons at their own 36-yard line on the Lions opening drive, Larned went on a 64-yard drive, culminating in a Herter 1-yard touchdown run with 7:56 in the first quarter. The conversion kick by Logan DeMond was good and the rout was on.
Larned's Keith scored on a 25-yard TD at the 4:05 mark for a quick 14-0 led.
The Larned defense was dominant all evening, limiting Lyons to a minus 11 yards rushing and 29 yards passing. Lyons quarterback Terek Smith was constantly under pressure which resulting in losses totaling 41 yards during the game.
In the second quarter penalties against Larned caused an unusual situation that still resulted in a touchdown for the Indians.
With 8:01 remaining before halftime Larned’s Shevon Martin brook loose for a 70-yard touchdown run that was called back due to a holding penalty.
Three plays later McConnell used his speed to outrun the Lions’ defenders for a 62-yard score but another holding penalty denied that.
Then, with 7:09 remaining, Keith swept the left end and rambled for a 70-yard touchdown. This time there were no penalty flags . Thus, Larned had the unique experience of scoring three touchdowns on that drive but only one counted. Larned would score again on a 2-yard run by Herter and take a 28-0 halftime lead.
Larned's Bartz ran 15 yards for a touchdown at the 9:05 mark. DeMond’s kick was good and the Indians led 35-0. In the next Lyons possession, cornerback McConnell intercepted a Lyons pass and ran, untouched, for a touchdown , and thus, turning on the running clock for the rest of the game.
Lyons had a minus 11 yards rushing on 29 attempts and quarterback Smith completed three of eight passes for 17 yards and had one pass intercepted and returned for a Larned score.
