STERLING — The Central Plains High School boy’s basketball team played a patient offensive style to hang close with No. 2 seed Inman before losing 33-23 in Friday night’s semifinal game of a Class 2A sub-state tournament.
The Oilers stayed within range despite 4 of 21 shooting in the second half to go with seven turnovers. Central Plains scored on one of 10 possessions in the third period to trail 20-17.
Inman outscored the Oilers 13-6 in the final period.
Michael Lamatsch paced the Oilers (13-9) with eight points, and Layne Bieberle added seven points.
The Oilers were within 28-23 when Bieberle scored with 1:10 left. Bieberle missed back-to-back 3-pointers and Lamatsch missed a 3-pointer.
Josh Miller, the Burrton Invitational Most Valuable Player earlier this season, scored 16 points and converted 6 of 6 free throws to spark the Teutons.
Justin Friesen added eight points for Inman.
