HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School girls’ golf team qualified for the Class 3-1A state meet by winning its regional on Monday.
The state meet will be held in Emporia on Monday, Oct. 17.
The Lady Cardinals, who combined for a total of 421 to top Russell’s score of 424, were led by Blakelee Cooper. She shot a 46 to open the meet and finished by shooting a 50 for a final score of 96, taking second place.
“We looked pretty good,” Hoisington head coach Bruce Cooper said. “Russell is a pretty good team. We’ve faced a lot this season, and they usually end up beating us. We didn’t tear them up or anything.”
Pretty Prairie’s Chelsea Flickinger shot an 89 for first place.
Hoisington had three other golfers finish in the top 10 to take home a medal from the regional.
Shelby Littrell finished in seventh place with a 106.
Jordin Greer shot a 109 to finish in ninth place.
Ashton Nickelson rounded out the top 10 by shooting a 110 for 10th place.
“I think our greatest strength is our depth,” Cooper said. “We had four girls finish in the top 10 today. Some of the other teams, they had two or three girls who were pretty good, and then the other players drop off a little bit.”
