Lady Cardinals lead all-league selections

The Class 3A state runner-up Hoisington High School volleyball team controlled the most selections for the All-Mid-Central Activities Association first and second teams.
The Lady Cardinals had four players on the first team and another three on the second.
Hoisington senior outside hitter Mallory Flagor was a unanimous selection for the first team.
“I re-watched the state tournament all over again the other night,” Hoisington head coach Tina Johnson said. “She’s a great player, but she is an even better leader on the floor.
“She tries to push the girls to play harder even while trying to help comfort everyone.”
Flagor set the school for kills for the third year in a row. She finished the season with 692 kills on 1,249 attempts.
Joining her on the first team from Hoisington is sophomore setter Abi Rziha, who set the school record for assists with 997, junior libero Mykela Riedl and senior outside hitter Belle Brickley.
Savannah Rose, BreAnna Burns and Abbi Demel were selected for the second team.
“I have to say something about Abbi Demel,” Johnson said of the only freshman to make an all-league team. “To make the team as a freshman, that says a lot about her work ethic, as well as a lot about our senior leadership to help push her.”
Hoisington finished with a 39-6 record, the best finish in school history. The Lady Cardinals graduate four seniors, who all made an all-league team.
“I think as a coach, the volleyball stuff can be pretty exciting,” Johnson said. “You know, every coach wants to do well in matches, but just knowing that these kids have given their all. All four seniors making the all-league teams, it just says a lot about the leadership.
“BreAnna and Savannah both stayed after practice at night the week before state just to keep working. All of these kids are just driven.”
Ellinwood had three athletes make the all-league team.
Josee Roth, a senior outside hitter, made the first team, and junior Lindsey Zink and sophomore Sophie Hayes made the second team.
Larned’s Summer Snyder and Roxy Foster each were selected for the second team.
